About Kyle:

​"I'm honored that my fellow Royal Oakers chose to elect me to the city commission for a third time and I'm proud of what we're accomplishing together as a community. With your support,  I am working every day to keep things going in the right direction by remaining focused on maintaining a high quality of life for everyone who calls this city home."

Kyle and his wife Tara love raising their three young children in Royal Oak. As our city commissioner, Kyle has brought valuable public policy experience to the table. His professional background includes advocating for the rights of seniors and people with disabilities with Michigan Protection & Advocacy Service and serving as the legislative director for an Oakland County lawmaker. He is currently the Director of Public Policy & Advocacy with United Way for Southeastern Michigan. 

Kyle holds a BA in Community Relations from Michigan State University and has a long history of community service and volunteerism including three years served with the Peace Corps in Niger, West Africa.

During his time as a city commissioner Kyle has served on the Commission for the Arts, the Senior Citizens Advisory board, City/School liaison committee, charter review committee, housing rehab board of appeals, the Retiree Healthcare Investment Board, the Retirement System Board of Trustees, and the Environmental Advisory Board.

Some of Kyle’s accomplishments as a commissioner include:

  • Increasing construction standards in our neighborhoods
  • Enacting a human rights ordinance to protect all Royal Oakers
  • Increasing funding for park upgrades and revitalization
  • Securing a permanent funding stream for senior programs
  • Establishing the senior citizen task force to focus on aging in place strategies
  • Creating the Royal Oak Commission for the Arts
  • Passing a tree protection ordinance for new developments
  • Stabilizing the city budget and restoring proper public safety funding
  • Leading the charge to make Royal Oak a leader in environmental sustainability

   Experience:
